Was Jesus
Really Born on December 25th?
And Does It
Even Matter?
Ever Wonder
What The Bible Says About Christmas?

Jeremiah
10: 2—4 Thus says the Lord:
Do not learn the way of the nations…(some
versions say heathen, or gentile, all
versions mean unbeliever) it’s very plain
God did not want His people to learn the
customs of those who did not believe in Him
nor worship Him.
Luke’s
account of the birth of Jesus, says that the
Shepherds were living out in the fields with
their flocks, (Luke 2:8). Now Bethlehem was
in Judea, a country which we now call
Israel, and they also experience winter.
Their temperatures can get below freezing
and they have even been known to receive
snow. I don’t know about you, but I
wouldn’t want to be living outside and
sleeping on the ground in those conditions.
Luke
2:10—12, tells us that the Shepherds, NOT
the wise men found Jesus “wrapped in
swaddling cloths, lying in the manger”.
Matthew 2:2 tells us wise men from the East
came to Jerusalem. It does not tell us how
many wise men came there, we only know there
was more than one, there could have been a
hundred. We do know that they brought three
(3) gifts, Matthew 2:11, when they had come
into the house, they saw the
young child (no longer an infant) with His
mother; they fell down and worshiped Him.
When they had opened their treasures, they
presented gifts to Him; gold, frankincense,
and myrrh.
I’m not
trying to make light of His birth, as His
birth was extremely important, but I’m also
sure if He wanted us to remember His
birthday there would have been a clearer
record of it. He did tell us to remember
His death and when it was. Matthew 26:2
“You know that
after two days is the Passover, and the
Son of Man will be delivered up to be
crucified”.
Now the
Passover is the fourteenth day of the
first month at twilight Exodus 12:6,
14; Leviticus 23:5. The first month in
God’s calendar is late March to mid April.
The Bible lets us know that Jesus was
approximately 30 years old when He began His
ministry, Luke 3:23 and most Theologians
agree that His ministry lasted 3½ years,
making Him 33½ years old. If you add six
months to late March or mid April (His next
birthday) you come up with late September to
mid October, and you’re very likely to find
Shepherds in the fields with their flocks in
September and October, and folks that’s a
far cry from December 25th.
God wants
His people to walk the straight and narrow
path. He tells us the gate to salvation is
narrow and few find it. Satan on the other
hand doesn’t care by how much you miss the
mark, just that you miss it.
The
celebrations of Christmas were originally
the celebrations of the winter solstice, a
practice done by unbelievers of God, (called
sun worshippers) long before the birth of
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
People say
well it’s harmless, it’s a joyous time of
year, and it’s only for the kids.
Jesus
asks; “Why do you also transgress (sin) the
commandment (law) of God because of your
tradition?” Matthew 15:3; “For
laying aside the commandment of God, you
hold the tradition of men—the washing
of pitchers and cups, and many other such
things you do. All too well you reject
the commandment of God, that you may keep
your tradition”.
Mark 7:8--9.
Still
others say “Put Christ back into Christmas”,
I ask how can you put something or someone
back into something when it was never there
to begin with?
Here is a
little something to ponder…a comparison of
sorts…...check out the names below, compare
the letters in their names and their
likenesses….

I ask again
was the man who shed His blood and died for
our salvation, that we may have the
opportunity for eternal life, born on
December 25th ? Does the
celebration matter? It is truly something
to think about and something for you to
decide. Your eternal life could depend on
it.
